The Minnesota Supreme Court has issued its decision; a split decision with a valid dissent, one that is likely to become ruling as this case plays out. I believe it is incumbent upon the Rice County Attorney’s Office to re-look its position. Taxpayers have now been charged with thousands of dollars for legal expenses, not only time wasted in the County Attorney’s Office, but also for time spent by all of the Courts.

As a disinterested (and prior to reading the decision, uninformed) third party, one of two scenarios comes to mind. First, someone in the County Attorney’s Office has a personal vendetta against Ms. Peck, perhaps a failed romance? Secondly, someone in the County Attorney’s Office is trying to make a name for him/herself. Either way, it remains a waste of taxpayers dollars.

A remedy? Boil down the bong water and charge Ms. Peck based upon the residual weight of the drug. Just quit wasting Minnesota tax dollars.
