- The Northfield school board finalized the district 2010 tax levy proposal at their meeting earlier this week. Superintendent, Dr. Chris Richardson says the proposal calls for a 1.66% increase in taxes for 2010. He says that increase is due in part to lack of debt excess dollars, even though the general fund tax revenue will go down by about $100,000. Dr. Richardson says about 70% of the school’s funding comes from the state and in terms of the tax levy portion, about 76% of the property tax is voter-approved.
- Members of the Northfield Hospital board and the city council, along with members of the public had a chance to meet David Graebner yesterday. He is one of two finalists for the position of Northfield Hospital President and CEO. Graebner says his past experience as a nurse, and his operational expertise through his position at Regions Hospital and Healthpartners Medical Group would serve him well as Hospital President. A similar meeting was held for Mark Henke, the other finalist for the position, on Tuesday.The hospital’s Board of Directors will likely make a final decision about the position at their meeting next Tuesday.
- December 19th is Northfield Arts Guild Day in Northfield. The guild celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The guild is sponsoring the Beaux Arts Ball on Saturday night. The theme for the ball is Fire and Ice. A 19-piece swing band will perform and there will also be local art on display. An original piece of music has also been commissioned just for the occasion and will be performed by the Northfield Youth Choir. Nearly 400 tickets have already been sold to the ball. It gets underway Saturday at 7 pm at Carleton’s Great Hall. For more information, you can click here.
