  • Northfield hosts caucuses for both parties in district 25 on Tuesday night. Democrats will gather at the Northfield Middle School at 7:00. Republicans, at the Northfield high School, also at 7:00. Voters will have an opportunity to cast a gubernatorial preference ballot demonstrating their preferences in the upcoming election. Attendees will also have the opportunity to run and vote for delegates supporting specific candidates or issues to represent the precinct at the district convention on March 6th. Anyone who will be eligible to vote in Minnesota by November 2, 2010 may vote in the gubernatorial-preference ballot. Anyone age 16 or over may participate in caucus business. Ballots may only be cast in person, no absentee balloting is allowed.
  • The Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) hosts a forum Tuesday, exploring the concepts of sustainable design. Basically, sustainable design is the philosophy of designing the built environment to comply with principles of economic, social and ecological sustainability. The forum will feature Miles Britz, a certified LEED Accredited Professional, who will answer any questions about applying these design principles to area property development projects. According to Britz, the goal is to “eliminate negative environmental impact through skillful, sensitive design.” The event is free and open to the public. It starts at 8:00 a.m., in the Riverview Conference Room at the historic Archer House River Inn.
  • At a meeting late last week, the Economic Development Authority elected Jenelle Teppen as its President. The EDA also elected Steve Engler as Vice President and Rhonda Pownell as the Secretary/Treasurer. At the meeting, the board agreed to execute annual Professional Service Agreements with the Northfield Enterprise Center for $50,000 and the NDDC for $35,000.
