Northfield police have issued a statewide all-points bulletin in their search for the suspect in yesterday’s shooting, which left one man injured. 26-year-old Joshua Barron is suspected of shooting 51-year-old Loran Sirek from Cannon Falls, and then fleeing. According to Chief Taylor, a confrontation occurred yesterday between the suspect and eventual victim at a residence on Dresden Avenue in Northfield. When Sirek and a passenger attempted to leave in Sirek’s car, Barron went to his pickup and got a rifle, opening fire on Sirek’s vehicle. Police believe 4 shots were fired—with one shot striking Sirek near his shoulder. Sirek then drove away and stopped a few minutes later at the Dairy Queen on Highway 3, just north of town, which is where police found him and one passenger. Sirek was taken to Northfield Hospital and then transported to HCMC. Chief Taylor says Barron may or not still be with the vehicle they’re looking for–a silver 2006 Chevy Silverado with license plate number UER 539. Barron may still be armed. If you have any information on this incident, you’re asked to call the Northfield police tip line at 663-9494.- Non-binding straw polls at Democratic, Independence and Republican caucuses today will give an early indication of how the crowded governor’s race is shaping up.
