Update on Dan Freeman’s health (Wednesday)

by Tim Freeland on February 2, 2010

(UPDATE, 4pm Wednesday). We just got word that Dan is being released from the hospital right now. Welcome home Dan.

(UPDATE, 8:30AM Wednesday).  Dan called into the morning show from Abbott in Minneapolis and admitted that it’s been quite an experience as he tries to figure out just what happened to him.  He sounded great and is ecstatic that he’s going to be getting out very soon.
Listen to Dan here!

(UPDATE, 4:30pm Monday) We had a good report from Suzanne today.  She is back in CA but spoke to Dan awhile ago.  He is sounding back to normal and feels a lot better.  Everything is looking like he will be discharged in a few days.  He is having visitors, so feel free to do so if you’d like.

(UPDATE, 7pm Saturday).  Dan had a great day and has been moved out of the ICU and had a few phone conversations with his daughter.  His breathing is much improved and he will be admitted to a room and resume testing on Monday.  Keep checking back to this site and we’ll keep you informed.  Hopefully our friend will come home soon!

(UPDATE, 2pm Friday).  They have decided to keep Dan in the ICU at this time.  Although he is breathing better, he is somewhat disorientated due to medications and in a condition that requires the ICU monitoring.  He is not ready to have guests yet.  They have scheduled further testing to determine his prognosis.

(UPDATE, 3:30pm Thursday).  Dan has made great improvements today, is awake and on oxygen.  He’s going to stay in the ICU for one more night before being moved.  They plan to run various tests.  They found some pneumonia in addition to the problems he has with severe asthma.

Suzanne asked that you go through email instead of calling the hospital.  Email her at suz@suzannefreeman.com.  If you’d like to leave a note to Dan in the comment section below, she will be printing them and reading to Dan soon.

(UPDATE, 2pm Wednesday)  We’ve heard from Dan’s daughter, Suzanne.  She’s with him now in the ICU.  She reported that he is doing better but still having a hard time breathing.  He has been removed from the ventilator.

(Tuesday) Many close friends of Dan Freeman have stopped in and called the station this morning looking for Dan.  Because Dan is an employee and close friend of us, we wanted to post an update on his health.  Dan suffered a severe asthma attack yesterday and was taken by ambulance to Abbott Northwestern Hospital and is currently in the ICU on a ventilator.  We are in contact with his family and will keep you updated as Dan recovers.

Dan, you know how much Reid and I love you and I hope you can feel our heartfelt good wishes from that hospital bed. Of the many beers drunk Friday at Froggy Bottoms, most were raised in your honor, which as we all known is beyond (public) reproach. Much love to our best friend — and certainly the best friend this community has ever had.

Pam Gillespie February 7, 2010 at 5:12 pm

Dan….I know it takes alot to keep you down! So happy to hear you are working your way back to “normal” (whatever that is). Keep following the healing road, buddy. This town isn’t the same without you strolling around with that big smile of yours! *am

Hi Dan,
Could have bowled us over by news of asthma attack; we did not know you have asthma!!!! At any rate, prayers from all of your friends have helped sustain you during these difficult days. We know the doctors and nurses are giving you the best of care. Please know that you have tons of support for your rest and recovery and will be so glad to hear when you are home in Nfld. Things are still humming at St. Paul’s on German Lake with Van Miller. Those Northfield guys! land out here! Quite something. Must check on Superbowl and see who is going to win. Our love, Sandy and Tom

Thanks to KYMN for hosting this communal site to leave all these messages for me. It is a bit overwhelming and at the same time comforting to know that so many of you are sending me love and encouragement. I promise to be on my good behavior and get well as soon as I can. (Well, as good as my behavior can ever be) Gratefully Yours, Dan
