- Majority Democrats in the state legislature want to have the full Senate take up a $1 billion bonding bill on Tuesday. That includes a request for nearly $3 million for a new fire facility in Northfield. The bonding would also pay for college buildings, civic centers, sewer upgrades and other projects throughout the state. Senator Dahle says it should be clear what stays in the bill soon.(DFL) State Senator for District 25, Kevin Dahle says we’ll know more about what the bill looks like after Governor Pawlenty exercises his veto power. Governor Pawlenty has indicated he’s looking at signing a bill that totals closer to $685 million.
- A local man has been nominated to the US Service Academies. Logan Smestad from Nerstrand was nominated by 2nd District congressman John Kline.Smestad is a National Honor Society member. He plays soccer and competes in Nordic Skiing, cross country and track and field. The air force, army, Naval and merchant marine academies require applicants receive a nomination from their member of congress, senator, the Vice President or President.
- Northfield schools have a new system for alerting families about emergency situations, weather related delays and low lunch balances. The system is called Skylert. It allows families to access alerts via email, phone and text message. School superintendent, Dr. Chris Richardson says Northfield public schools will send out a test message tomorrow in the early evening so families can configure their Skylert preferences. KYMN will also report any weather-related school closings or delays throughout the day.
