- UPDATE……Two Northfield men are charged in Rice County, in separate incidents, for selling crack cocaine. According to the criminal complaints, the arrests are the result of a months-long undercover operation. From January through March of this year, agents of the Rice County Drug Task Force conducted several controlled drug buys in an effort to cut down on drug selling and trafficking. 32-year-old Deonte Nelson was arrested after fleeing police Wednesday, near the Greenvale Place apartments. Nelson took part in a pre-arranged drug deal with an undercover agent for just over 2 grams of crack for $300. 28-year-old Laron Wheeler was also arrested Wednesday in a similar undercover operation near the Holiday gas station off of Highway 3. Northfield police assisted in both arrests. Both men face charges for selling three grams or more of cocaine on one or more occasions within a 90-day period in a school, park or public housing zone. They are both also charged with fleeing a peace officer. Both men have previous drug-related convictions.
- The Rice County Sheriff’s office, along with Northfield police, arrested a Northfield man yesterday at the Holiday station off of Highway 3. Northfield Deputy Police Chief Chuck Walerius has confirmed the arrest was cocaine related. Charges against the man are pending. KYMN will have more details on this story as there are developments.
