  • The Northfield planning commission continues to make progress on the Land Development Code (LDC). Planning commission chair, Tracy Davis says there’s light at the end of the tunnel and the commission has reviewed at least half of the draft that they started working off of. Davis says the code is designed to enact the comprehensive plan in a more specific way to help the community of Northfield become what it wants to be. Davis says the commission will likely review agriculture and open space zones in May and commercial and highway regulations some time in June.

    Coulumbe-Fiore

The city of Northfield has reached a settlement with former Economic Development Authority manager, Charlene Coulumbe-Fiore. Columbe-Fiore had alleged the city committed gender and disability discrimination. She sued the city after resigning in May 2008.According to the agreement, the city – through its insurer, the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust – will pay Fiore $39,000. Fiore will be required to pay her own costs and attorneys fees from this amount. Also, as a condition of the agreement, Fiore will drop all claims against the city, including the federal lawsuit. According to a city of Northfield press release, the city’s insurer sought to resolve the matter due to economic factors. The costs of the litigation in attorneys fees and time, as well as continued impact of city staff time, were projected to exceed the cost of the settlement. According to the press release, the city does not admit to any wrongdoing or liability in this case.
