ArtZany!-Radio for the Imagination | ‘Laurel Bradley & Mallory Monsma’ Carleton College Art Gallery

granquistpaula ArtZany! Radio for the Imagination | Laurel Bradley & Mallory Monsma Carleton College Art GalleryListen Fridays at 9:00am (replayed on Saturday also at 9am) to Paula Granquist’s “Art Zany: Radio for the Imagination”

Paula’s Guest/Topic this week: Paula’s guests today are Laurel Bradley, Director of Exhibitions and Curator of the College Art Collection, Carleton College and Carleton College student Mallory Monsma ’11, studio art major and one of the seven student curators of the current exhibit at the Carleton College Art Gallery.

A vibrant, inspiring, and timely new exhibit is open in the Carleton College Art Gallery. “Radical Messages, Revolutionary Means” highlights the College’s collection of artists’ books and showcases the power and possibility of books. This show explores how artists’ book combine form, content, artistry, and voice into books that seek to shift perceptions and raise questions.

“Radical Messages, Revolutionary Means” is the culmination of a winter term art history curatorial seminar led by Laurel Bradley. Seven Carleton students enrolled in the Art History course Curatorial Seminar developed their curatorial skills, dug through the College’s special collection and edited non-stop to produce this creative exhibit.

“Radical Messages, Revolutionary Means” will be on display through May 9, 2010. The Carleton College Art Gallery is located in the lower level of the Music and Drama Center, near First and Winona Streets in Northfield. The gallery is open Monday through Wednesday, noon to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, noon to 10 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information on the exhibit, the lectures, or for disability accommodations, call the Carleton Art Gallery at (507) 222-4342 or visit www.carleton.edu/campus/gallery.

An upcoming event connected with the exhibit is the Edible Book Contest. Edible books can be anything “bookish” in form and completely delicious. The contest will take place on Sunday, May 9 at 12 p.m. in the Concert Hall Lobby. Weather permitting, participants will enjoy their creations on the lawn with lemonade.
