Paula’s guest is an international jazz singer and educator Stephanie Nakasian. Stephanie Nakasian has been a featured artist at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and The San Jose Jazz Festival. Her appearances in Minnesota include performances at the Artists Quarter in Saint Paul and MacPhail School for the Arts. Steph teaches jazz voice and improvisation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville where she resides and also teaches at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. Her book “It’s not on the Page! How to Integrate Jazz and Jazz Rhythm Into Solo and Choral Repertoire” has been presented to over 25 state and national music conferences as well as to international music conferences. Stephanie’s vocal workshops educate singers and listeners about the history of vocal jazz, the subtleties of jazz rhythm and phrasing and the different approaches to improvisation and interpretation in putting together repertoire and learning to swing. Her engaging personality and stage presence make all her shows and workshops fun as well as musically and educationally substantive.
