A Rice County judge has denied a motion from Joshua Barron’s lawyer to suppress evidence following his arrest for the February shooting of a Northfield man. The judge also denied a motion to dismiss the charges against Barron for lack of probable cause. Barron faces several felony charges, including 1st degree attempted murder. Barron is accused of shooting Loran Sirek following an argument, and then fleeing to Aitkin, Minnesota in a stolen pickup, where he was captured by authorities. According to the judge’s ruling, there exists probable cause to charge the defendant and the “defendant’s poorly defined claim of immunity from prosecution because of his warrantless arrest is without merit. “ The judge goes on to say that Barron had no standing to object to the search of a stolen vehicle. Barron’s trial is set to begin October 25th.
