Paula’s Guest/Topic this week: Paula’s guests today celebrate the art of choral music and singing. Joining Paula in the studio are the director of the Northfield community choir I Cantanti, Wayne Kivell and the soprano singer, Donna McMillan.
Wayne Kivell is a the director of I Cantanti, Northfield’s Chamber Choir. He is a graduate of Luther College and the musicology program at the University of Minnesota, where he specialized in Renaissance and Early Music. A longtime educator at Northfield High School, Kivell is a recipient of the F. Melius Christiansen Award for lifetime conducting experience and distinguished service to choral music in Minnesota by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota.
Donna McMillan is a soprano member of the I Cantanti ensembles. She is an Associate Professor of Psychology and department chair at St. Olaf College. She received the Minnesota Psychological Association’s Award for Outstanding Teacher of Undergraduate Psychology and St. Olaf College’s Gertrude Hilleboe Award for Faculty Involvement in Student Life. Her research focuses on the psychological significance of the natural world and factors involved in psychological well-being.
I Cantanti (The Singers) is a mixed 36-voice community ensemble from Northfield area. Founded in 1988, the choir is dedicated to fine performances of all types of choral literature.
