At its Tuesday work session, the Northfield city council received an update on the community survey completed earlier this year.

Bill Morris from Decision Resources, the company that conducted the survey, went through the survey results with council. Overall, Morris says the survey shows that state of the city is robust and government operations and city staff received high marks. 96% of residents gave their quality of life in Northfield a positive rating, citing the small town feel and friendliness of the people among the things they like most about the city. As for services that are candidates for cuts in most people’s minds: maintenance of city trails, park maintenance, the maintenance and trimming of trees, the liquor store, community education and recreation programs, animal control and building inspection permits. Among residents primary concerns: lack of jobs and lack of city funding. Morris says the survey did show people in Northfield of two mind sets: those who see Northfield as a small town, and those see the city as a second ring suburban community.
