Faribault man in a wheelchair stops on RR tracks
A Union Pacific Railroad engine fatally struck a man in a wheelchair in Faribault. Faribault Police Chief Don Gudmundson says the man was crossing the tracks at 2nd street when he stopped on the tracks, turned and faced the oncoming engine. He was killed instantly. The engineer saw 58 year old Scott Douglas Hutchinson coming down the walk bridge and believed the man had time to cross. It appears to be a deliberate act by Hutchinson. An autopsy is being performed and an investigation will continue by Faribault police and Union Pacific. Video footage within the engine compartment will be reviewed.
