Paula’s Guest/Topic this week:

Today’s show is a rebroadcast.

Paula’s guest today is the singer, songwriter and musician Ruthie Foster. She’s originally from Texas and now touring the world, you will hear all styles of American songs in her CD collections–from gospel and blues to jazz, folk, rock and soul. Ruthie Foster’s powerful voice has drawn comparisons to greats like Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald. Ruthie received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album for her  2009 studio release, The Truth According to Ruthie Foster. In a nod to her astounding range, she then won seemingly contradictory Blues Music Association awards for both Best Traditional and Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist in back-to-back years. Learn more about this talented musician at ruthiefoster.com

Her new album Let It Burn was released earlier this year and features Blind Boys of Alabama, Soul legend William Bell, and songs by Adele, Black Keys, Los Lobos, Johnny Cash, The Band, Pete Seeger, Crosby, Stills & Nash and more. Ruthie’s Let It Burn debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Current Blues Album Chart behind only Etta James. It also hit the Top 10 on Amazon’s sales chart and #1 in Blues on iTunes and Amazon during it’s first week of release.
