EDA discusses business climate with Council
During this weeks council work session they met with the EDA. Members jack Hoshauer and Ray Cox said their main focus is to keep businesses that are already here and help them to thrive. They laid out several goals and will continue to flesh out details. One of those programs is a revolving loan program. They also discussed budget. Their levy will be lowered as will the HRA levy due to market valuation changes. The entire meeting is archived online at kymnradio.net.
McBride gives the low down on the levy
Council discussed budget this week. Finance Director Kathleen McBride outlined the levy outlook. She was able to shift various levies to different entities. The bottom line is in 2013 the levy will be over 7 ½%, 83% of that number is to pay for the new Public Safety Center. The hard cost an owner of a $220,000 home is about $86 per year. In 2014, McBride estimates the levy to be 3.6%. These numbers are preliminary and subject to change slightly. The entire meeting is archived online at kymnradio.net
2 more file for Northfield School Board
Two more resident have filed affidavits of candidacy for the Northfield School Board. Dan Cupersmith and Rob Hardy. There will be four open seats in the November election. Three incumbents have already filed. Noel Stratmoen, Anne Maple and current Chair Ellen Iverson. Filing ends August 14th.
Get out and Vote says the Mayor
The Primary is next Tuesday. Mayor Rossing is encouraging everyone to get out and vote as there are a number of folks running for council ward 2 and the at-large seats as well as Rice County commissioners. Due to redistricting, wards have changed. The city’s website has all the precinct information as well as a list of the candidates right on their front page. Go to ci.northfield.mn.us
HRA meets at 5pm tonight – you can watch on KYMN
The HRA meets at 5 o’clock tonight. Part of their agenda will be the initial planning of the Veterans Park project with Jenny Larson. Members will also review their work session with City Council. Issues surrounding the manufactured homes parks and working collaboratively with the council were discussed. And finally they’ll review the Rice County HRA presentation of the Housing Study. the meeting will be streamed live online at kymnradio.net.
Reagan Dinner for Congressional District 2 at The Grand
The Grand is hosting the 6th annual Reagan Dinner tomorrow evening. This is the major fundraiser for the 2nd Congressional District Republican Party. Chair of the Rice County republicans, Bron Scherer says this years theme is Women of the GOP. There will be a number of guests including Lt. Governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, Cindy Bills, Curt Bills. the emcee will be Deputy Chair Kelly Fenton. Tickets are still available.
