He’s been in Northfield for 20 years and is the High School civics teacher. He served in the Minnesota Senate for 3 years but lost out in the 2010 election. He feels that many problems in the legislature have not been addressed. In particular, the budget and what to do with it. He has spent many years as a teacher in various schools and ended up back in Northfield at the now-named Area Learning Center. It was during that time that he became involved in the political arena as an advocate. He spent 2 terms as House representative for District 25b. Budget is top of mind and he believes in a balance. He would also be willing to talk about raising sales taxes. Other priorities for him include healthcare reform and green energy. Director of the Northfield Library, Lynne Young, is retiring. She will officially retire from full-time work at the end of January. Young has been with the Library since 1985 and has seen many changes in those 27 years. While she has loved her job, she told the Northfield News that she’s tired. Between her 20 year losing fight to expand the library and frustration with the publishing world on how to deal with e-books, she said the time is right for someone with a little more patience and a little more understanding. Her plan, if approved by city leaders, will be to continue to work half-time through March to help transition a new director into place and be done completely by mid-April.
