Dan Freeman’s Health

Many people have been asking about Dan’s health and trip to Rochester last week.  His daughter Suzanne has asked if we could help direct folks to Dan’s Facebook page (not his Facebook profile) for updates.  They are in reverse chronological order started from top down.  The family will update this page.

Hi everyone. Dad (Dan) is at St. Mary’s in Rochester. He’s suffered from pneumonia for more than 2 months, with various treatments not working. He was in Northfield hospital in early September before being moved to a recovery facility. When he was released from there and went home, he got steadily worse and weaker. He was admitted to St. Mary’s 2 days ago, and a bronchoscopy was performed yes

terday to get to the bottom of his sickness. He was admitted to the ICU after the procedure, and then we were told that he wasn’t doing well at all. He’s sedated, intubated, and has a feeding tube. The doctors are saying the next few days are critical, and if he can get through he’ll have a better chance at recovery. There is a chance though, that even if he does survive the next few days he won’t be the same Dan that we know. His family is gathering around him now and in the next few days. As things progress we’ll do our best to keep this page updated.

Update!!! Dad is doing much much better. He’s awake today, alert, and sitting in a raised bed for a few hours at a time. He still has tubes to help with breathing and eating, but he’s making steady progress. He isn’t able to talk because of the tubes, but is communicating a bit with a white board. They’ve found the bug responsible for his pneumonia, and are giving him corresponding antibiotics. Overall the care team (who are all kind and thorough) is optimistic. And it’s a remarkable improvement given the news from 2 days ago.
