2016 Horseshoe Hunt Clue #5

CLUE #5 – Sept 4th 2016 – Sunday

Henry and Richard helped us balance our load
We all dismounted on the big black plain
And we wandered the hillside just steps away
And I took off my gun belt and hung on the tree
Took a gaze around at the large building that was suited for play
E.R. Trail to my frontside as the sun went away
-Jesse James

CLUE #4 – Sept 3rd 2016 – Saturday

By this time we were down river but still couldn’t cross
We rode up on a trail that looked to someday cross over but didn’t
We came upon a camp of men, Richard and Henry, who hadn’t heard the news
Telling them we were land surveyors, they directed us back up the trail
Where they swear they saw a horseshoe
Just lying in the weeds
-Frank James

CLUE #3 – Sept 2nd 2016 – Friday

I was in my carriage down the block when I saw the robbers break south
I covered my buggy, unhitched my horse and gave chase
They rode to the southwest of downtown on towards Dundas
It would be a long dark night before any of them made it home
I heard one bandit shout “That’s a dead end that way, you’ve gone too far”
Before I lost sight a horse’s shoe came off and slid far away
-Ellen Ames

CLUE #2 – Sept 1st 2016 – Thursday

At first, I thought it was just some promotional stunt
For the show that was coming to town that weekend
However, from that vantage point, I could see it all
The brigands riding up and down, yelling to get off the street
One man shot at me, so I ducked back inside
I stood up again and went to the window and heard him yell
“This is a raid and we’re aiming to rob”
-Dr. D.J Whiting

CLUE #1 – Aug 31st 2016 – Wednesday

Northfield sure crossed us up, those fellows kept shootin from the corner
Our getaway was botched too, keeping us to the south
And that damn teller, ruined us all
Perhaps there really was a time lock, I told those guys
Now comes our retreat, a sure-fire disaster
-Cole Younger
