Head-on collision update; New Liquor store designs range up to $4.6 mil; NHS offers a chance to “let the Spirits come to you” during Cemetery Stories

Three people sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision Friday night. The crash occurred on Hwy 60 at Morristown Blvd.  According to the State Patrol, a 2002 Chevy driven by 26 year old Jessica Lynn Hermans of Minneapolis was westbound on Hwy 60 when she collided with a 2004 Mitsubishi driven by 27 year old Peter John Kelly of Kenyon.  Inside his vehicle was his 7 year old son, also named Peter.  The report says that it’s unknown if Hermans had any alcohol in her system.  Sheriff Dunn said that while they think she

was impaired, her condition was such that they couldn’t get a PBT and will have to wait for blood test results which will take 2 to 3 weeks.  He could not confirm any impairment.  Dunn commented on First Responder efforts in light of having to call three helicopters.  He said Northfield and Faribault fire and rescue work well together and he and his Assistant were still at work so they were able to assist in traffic control while the crash was reconstructed by the State Patrol.  The helicopters were able to land at the park, but that also meant they had to block the bicycle trail.  All three were flown by air ambulance to HCMC.  I talked with Christine Hill at HCMC at 11:40am, she reports that Hermans and Kelly Sr. are in satisfactory condition but the young Peter is in serious condition.   Young Peter’s grandmother has set up a gofundme page at gofundme

NHS offers a chance to “let the Spirits come to you” during Cemetery Stories

The Northfield Historical Society is presenting Cemetery Stories again this year!  It’s at Oaklawn Cemetery this year.  Tours will run every 15 minutes beginning at 4pm through 7:15.  Interim Executive Director Cathy Osterman said you can grab some lawn chairs and blankets and, “let the Spirits come to you”.  That will take place at about 7:45pm.  The stories will all have a connection in one way or another to World War I, which corresponds with the current exhibit.
