Join the Northfield Historical Society in remembering the Great War and the affects it had on the Northfield community a century ago. Service and Sacrifice: Northfield in the Great War will debut on June 29 th with an evening reception open to the public from 6 to 8pm.

Northfield citizens, like others in the U.S. and throughout Minnesota, watched the war begin feeling as though it had nothing to do with themselves. But as the war continued, curiosity and even anxiety took over. Northfield citizens formed opinions and many answered the call to serve.

This exhibit, the first in a series of three, focuses on how the Northfield community was affected by and reacted to the Great War. The second exhibit will tell the stories of several local men and women and their service. Finally, the third exhibit will return the story to Northfield and explore the aftermath of the war as it affected the town.

Join NHS as the exhibit opens and watch for related programming throughout the year. The exhibit is generously sponsored by the Eugene H. Traux VFW Post 4393.
