The owner of 1900 Sibley View Lane had his turn to speak last night at the Northfield City Council meeting. He objected to his 2017 street assessment.   The owner said, “is that reasonable that at 84 feet I pay $6206 but the study property pays $4640 at 80 feet?  Now, across the street from me…..  he has 135 feet at the curb, his assessment is $5626, $600 less than my assessment of $6206.  How did this happen?”  With a curved frontage, the city takes the measurement at the midpoint of the shortest side of the lot line.  City (more…)

Faribault man facing up to 90 yrs in sexual assault of a child; Nfld Superintendent lays out 4 goals; Assessments, step increases and budgets on Nfld Council agenda

A Faribault man is charged with three counts of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with a child.  In a heavily redacted criminal complaint, the victim states that she was sexually assaulted several times between the ages of 5 and 11 by 3 different men who were members of her church, Evangelical Christian Spiritual Church in Faribault.  (KYMN tried calling the number listed on a Facebook page twice.  Each time the phone was picked up but there was no voice and then hung up).  The girl, with support from her aunt, was interviewed on April 18th with a HOPE Center advocate present.  The first man allegedly molested her and videotaped it when she was between 5 and 7 years old.  The victim said she told her parents about it a (more…)

A man was airlifted after crashing his motorcycle yesterday evening.  Rice County deputies responded to the intersection of 45th St. W and Kanabec Avenue in rural Lonsdale around around 7 last night.  The victim, 48 year old Joel Quaintance of New Prague lost control in the curve, went in the ditch and was thrown from the bike.  Lonsdale Rescue and North Ambulance were on scene.  Quaintance was flown to North Memorial with serious injuries.  Sheriff Troy Dunn reports that (more…)

As the Northfield school district looks for voter approval of 2 new schools this November, Northfield Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Hillmann took a tour of some area high schools. He said they wanted to get some context of space for learning.  They toured  Andover High, a school with 2000 students.  It’s the footprint of the building model they’re looking at for Northfield.  They wanted to get the general layout/footprint of the multi-story school as it sits on a property.  They toured Southwest High in Mpls, to see their collaborative learning spaces, which Hillmann says, takes a different mind set and it was very informative.  They then toured Burnsville High School and looked at their, (more…)
