Three are in the running to complete the last year of the term for Northfield Councilor-at-Large.  Don McGee, Jon Denison and Greg Colby.  Colby was appointed by Council in January when Mayor Pownell vacated her seat to become Mayor.  Denison filed last week and McGee filed yesterday.  KYMN listeners will remember McGee from Beyond the Open Mic.  He’s been a council watchdog for (more…)

Nfld man in jail after choking woman; Tobacco ordinance should include education; ACC looks to create public policy and celebrate Sidewalk Poets

A Northfield man who choked the mother of his child is in custody.  26 year old Darius Leandrew Tankson is charged with domestic assault by strangulation, interfering with a 911 call, 2 counts of misdemeanor domestic assault and brawling.  In the criminal complaint, Northfield police were dispatched to 1502 Koester Ct on Saturday morning on a 911 hangup.  One of the officers made contact (more…)

The City of Northfield is part of NAFRS Joint Powers, Northfield Area Fire and Rescue Service.  As they work on formalized designs for the Fire Station rehab and buildout, the City specifically owns the building which sits at, what City officials are calling, a gateway, into the historic downtown. Charter amendment stirs debate; AA rating means $ savings; DJJD Ambassador coronation tonight

The Northfield Charter Commission voted to amend the Charter adding language that would require the Mayor to report once during their term on the operations and administration of the City, to the Council.  While the Charter already provides for that, there was no requirement as to when. Right now, the amendment reads that it would be before the last day of the 3rd year of their term.  A public hearing was held this week.  Mayor Pownell commented Wednesday morning, “the Council’s now being given an opportunity to weigh in.  Is this a good idea, not good idea, do we want to give different direction to the Charter Commission?”.
