2019 Rice County Master Gardeners Horticulture Day
May the Forest be With You, Decorate With Green!
We still have seats available for you to register for the Rice County Horticulture Day “It’s time to Think Spring!” on Saturday, March 9th. The annual Horticulture Day, will feature speakers on how to improve & preserve our trees, the beautiful clematis, forest gardening & perennial harvests and how to create a vibrant green living wall for your home. The event will be held at Buntrock Commons on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finish up the day around 3:30 p.m.
Our first speaker will be Amy Caldwell – Arborist with S&S Tree and Horticultural Specialists, she will update us on the Emerald Ash Borer and share information on stem girdling root(s) and planting depth problems. Our second speaker will be Kathy Donahue Nass – One of the owners of Donahues Greenhouse, will talk about selecting, planting, growing and pruning of clematis. After lunch we’ll hear from Daniel Halsey – Southwoods Ecosystems, will help us unlock the ecological capital that is in our yard, fields, or our surrounding neighborhoods. And our last speaker for the day will be Eric Westerduin – Living wall guru from Charlotte, North Carolina, co-founder of Suite Plants – makers of beautiful living walls for both indoor and outdoor spaces, he will show us the many different ways to make and maintain a vibrant, beautiful green living wall for our own home.
The cost includes morning coffee & rolls, buffet lunch, door prizes, vendors, and silent auction items. Registration is due March 1st.
