A small aircraft crashed at the Faribault Municipal Airport on Saturday afternoon. Faribault Fire, Police and North Ambulance were called at about 2:30 p.m. per a report of a small aircraft upside down just off the runway. On arrival they found the pilot standing next to it uninjured. Fire crews used soaker pads to catch the fuel leaking from the aircraft. Fire and police stayed on the scene until an FAA official arrived. Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “We were very relieved when we found that the pilot was uninjured, that is rare in aircraft accidents.”
Merchants Bank president loves being a “community banker”
By now the Northfield community is aware that First National Bank of Northfield is being sold to Merchants Bank. President and CEO of Merchants, Greg Evans, stopped by the KYMN studios last week to introduce himself. He grew up in Winona, where Merchants is headquartered and has spent his entire 29-year career there. He said, “I love being a community banker. This is just an extraordinary profession because of the profound positive impact that we are able to have on the lives of our customers, helping them realize their hopes and dreams and then there’s the impact we have in the communities that we serve. We believe that when our communities do well, we as an organization are going to do well as a result.” Changes in the banking industry have been profound, in particular, in terms of digital banking and other products. He said they’ve had to “significantly increase our investments in technology and we need to continue to do that to be viable long into the future.” As for the community feel and service of those local bank tellers you’ve come to know, Evans commented, saying, “There’s tremendous value in personalized service.” First National Bank of Northfield has held that reputation since 1873. Merchants Bank was chartered in 1875 and is publicly traded with the employees owning the largest share at 18%. They are currently 19 branches in southeastern Minnesota. The next step in the sale will be to file a regulatory application. Evans’ full interview is on kymnradio.net under the Morning Show tab.
