Today in the ArtZany Radio studio Paula Granquist welcomes multi-media visual artist Judy Saye-Willis and jewelry artist and Fleur de Lis Gallery owner Jessica Prill to talk about the Slow Fashion event this weekend.
What’s the Buzz about Slow Fashion
Saturday, 8 June 2019
Fleur de Lis Gallery
219 Central Avenue North, Faribault, MN
The event will offer an opportunity to learn more about natural dying, sewing, weaving, visible mending and upcycling – all in an effort to slow down the fashion industry to produce eco-friendly wearables in our local area.
Natural dye artist, Judy Saye-Willis is steering the event and is offering a community indigo vat from 10-12 pm, where you can bring in a shirt and add “blue jean” color to it. Saye-Willis applies her natural gentle colors to garments and household items such as napkins and tea towels.
From 1-4 pm demonstrations and a panel discussion will take place. Saye-Willis will be joined by B & J Sewing Center, who will demonstrate sewing techniques such as how to mend a seam and finish edges, Kathy Anderson, who will be weaving on a loom, Bobbie Gallas, who will be showing her creative work in visible mending followed by discussions on the subjects of upcycling and repurposing. Saye-Willis will offer further explanation on sustainability and slow fashion.
