Susan Hvistendahl talks about the 1918 Popcorn Wagon on Bridge Square and the celebration of its 40 years in Northfield.
This year, the popcorn wagon is 101 years old and it has been serving up popcorn in Bridge Square for the last 40 years. Vera Johansen brought the Cretors Company popcorn wagon to Bridge Square in 1979. It has been an iconic sign of summer every year since then. It is now owned by FiftyNorth and enjoyed by Townies and visitors alike.
To celebrate the popcorn wagon, FiftyNorth and the Northfield Historical Society are partnering for a popcorn party on Bridge Square on June 13 from 6 to 6:30 pm. Historian Susan Hvistendahl will share the wagon’s colorful history and Randy Ferguson will lead us in the Supremes’ “Buttered Popcorn” song with help from Ann Etter and Michelle Drenth. And, of course, there will be free popcorn!
* In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved to the Northfield Historical Society. *
