A Farmington man is in jail for assaulting a man with a knife. Yesterday afternoon, police were called to Viking Terrace on report of an assault. On arrival a man was holding a shirt to his chin and was covered in blood. The victim, JDS, revealed a very deep cut on the left side of his cheek. Police report the wound appeared to be consistent with being slashed by a sharp object. According to the criminal complaint, the victim said he’s dating the woman living there and her ex-boyfriend, 38-year-old William Randall Saba Jr. of Farmington, was very angry that the woman broke up with him and is dating the victim, who states that he punched him in the face. The woman told
officers that she and the victim were in her bedroom lying in bed when she saw Saba enter the room and hold a knife to the victim’s throat. She recognized the knife as she had previously gifted it to Saba. The woman said she was able to grab Saba’s arm and remove the knife from JDS’s throat. The three parties then moved into the kitchen and talked. She said she walked away from the two men and went outside. A short while later, the victim came out bleeding and Saba left. The victim was taken to Northfield Hospital. The victim said that while he and the woman were in the bedroom, Saba attempted to choke JDS and also punched him in the face. Saba admits to holding a knife against the man’s throat and punching him. Saba has been charged with 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon, 2nd degree causing substantial bodily harm and 3rd degree assault. The most serious charge carries up to 10 years in prison. Saba’s initial court appearance is August 7, 2019. Bail has been set at $35,000 with conditions. Saba has a lengthy criminal history with a conviction for felony theft last year in Dakota County.
