Herbs – More Than Seasonings!

Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Northfield Public Library

More people are discovering the health benefits of herbs.  Although you can purchase these remedies, anyone can learn to make their own from local, easy-to-find plants.  This introductory class will be presented in two halves. Part I (45 minutes) will be an overview of Folk Herbalism, where you will learn the basic techniques of making your own herbal remedies and suggestions on what you should have in your own herbal apothecary.  Part II (45 minutes) will focus on What to Grow.  LuAnn will discuss the plants that are “must haves” in her garden and give you some tips on growing them.  She will also provide catalogs for three of her favorite seed companies and show you how to use these as a valuable resource.

:LuAnn Raadt, raised on a farm in southern Minnesota, grew up with a love of plants and growing things. She now happily gathers many of the “weeds” her family once tried to eradicate and uses them in remedies for common physical ailments and imbalances. Trained under professional herbalists, this farmer’s daughter particularly enjoys identifying plants, learning their botanical markers, and growing a variety of medicinal herbs that are not readily available or are considered at-risk in the wild. She is also passionate about introducing others to the fascinating world of herbal remedies and teas, and teaching them how to grow, make, and use remedies for themselves.
