The Arts and Culture Commission of Northfield announces the 2019 Sidewalk Poetry Capstone Celebration to take place on Thursday, August 29, 2019 in downtown Northfield on Bridge Square. For the first time this year, the contest accepted poetry submissions in Spanish, as well as English. Translations of all winning poems will be shared during the program. Joining local trio “Bonnie and the Clydes” will be vocal soloist Guillermo Calderon. The music will begin at 6:30 pm, the poetry presentations at 7 pm, with more music to follow.
The celebration is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs so they can relax and enjoy the music and poetry of the night. Thanks to Northfield’s FiftyNorth volunteers, the popcorn wagon will be open for business, serving delicious popcorn and cold drinks.
A large map of the locations of the 2019 winning poems will be shared and the winning poems from all nine years of the contest will be on display. The City’s Department of Public Works will have samples of the manufactured poetry molds on display.
