Hosts Andy Beaham and Dave Vesledahl talk with DNR Forester Jake Froyum, as he discusses local projects, last September’s storm damage and issues with the trees in the Nerstrand Big Woods State park. Foresters are involved in a large range of activities covering ecological restoration, timber harvesting, and day-to-day management of protected areas. They look after regular activities in the forests, including conservation, outdoor recreation, extraction of raw materials, aesthetics and helping the public by answering questions and giving advice.
Hosts Andy Beaham, Dave Vesledahl and Hayes Scriven had the opportunity to go to the Governor’s Fishing Opener where they were able to talk with Governor Walz and a number of other officials, as well as do some fishing! Fishing is a key part of a $15.3 billion tourism industry, and 500,000 anglers celebrated the Minnesota season opener. The Boundary Waters, is a region of wilderness straddling the Canada–United States border between Ontario and Minnesota, in the region just west of Lake Superior. It is characterized by a vast network of waterways and bogs within a glacially-carved landscape of Precambrian bedrock covered in thin soils and boreal forests.
