The Northfield Historical Society Board of Directors and the Outlaw Run Committee announced today that this year’s outlaw run, scheduled for August 27, has been canceled due to road safety concerns. The decision comes after an accident near Mazeppa on the planned Outlaw Run route, during which two committee members were injured.
“Although conditions were perfect when we checked the route a month ago, you never know what Minnesota’s summer road construction season might create,” says Hayes Scriven, executive director of the Northfield Historical Society. Recently a patch of road near Mazeppa was repaired in such a way that the surface was especially slippery for motorcycles, as discovered by the two committee members Sunday. St. Paul pair charged with multiple felonies
A chase that ends near the Northfield exit nets two. An agent with the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force made arrangements to make a buy of methamphetamine with 28 year old Anton David Banks of St. Paul. They made a plan to meet at Bashers in Faribault last Friday. After several communications, a U-Haul truck arrived at Bashers about 2 hours late. BANKS wanted the agent to follow the U-Haul truck. The agent said he was having problems with his car and asked if he could just approach the passenger side of the U-Haul. As he did, he noticed the driver was a woman later identified as 39 year old Rebecca Lynn Ziemer also of St. Paul. The deal went down with the agent (more…)

Shooting victim identified
A fatal shooting in Northfield early Sunday morning. As reported yesterday, Northfield police were called at 7:49 on report of shots fired inside a home on the 1200 block of Jefferson Road. Initial information was that the shooting was related to an intruder. Northfield officers were assisted by the Rice and Dakota County Sheriff’s Offices. Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson issued this press release Sunday afternoon:
Northfield Police were called to, what was reported as a home invasion about 7:49 this morning in the 1200 block of Jefferson Road. Police, emergency responders and other agencies arrived to find a shooting victim deceased. Northfield police Chief Monte Nelson reports an adult suspect is in custody and is being cooperative. Nelson said it does not appear to be a home invasion at this point and he would not release any further details on the victim or the suspect. He added that the public is not in danger. The BCA is on their way. We’ll have more on the story as details become available.
