A body was discovered on the 2400 block of 320th st. west in Waterford Township yesterday afternoon.  Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson spoke with KYMN confirming that a body had been found around 3:15.  His officers are working with the Dakota County County Sheriff’s department and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office on identification of the person.  We’ll have more information as details are released. Two serious crashes on Hwy 19 in 2 days – UPDATE

An 81 year old Hampton woman died this morning in a crash on Hwy 19 and Kellogg Avenue.  This morning (Saturday) around 10:30 State Patrol, Rice and Dakota Co. Sheriff’s deputies, Northfield police, fire and North Aircare responded to the accident. The State Patrol reports that a Dodge Caravan was westbound on Highway 19, stopped to turn left (southbound) on Kellogg Avenue in Sciota Township, when it was struck from behind by a Buick Century. The driver of the Buick, Donna Mae Otto, died at the scene. Both occupants of the Dodge were transported by ground ambulance to Northfield Hospital with believed non-life-threatening injuries. A Rice Co. man charged with multiple sex crimes pleads guilty

A Faribault man charged with 11 counts of criminal sexual conduct pled guilty this morning to one count of 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 16 who he had a significant relationship with and one count of 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 13.    The original complaint, issued in March of 2018, states that 36 year old Keith Richard Falkenstern, came to Faribault with his fiance and her 4 children in late February 2018.  They were living in a hotel when the mother walked in on Falkenstern and one of her two daughters in bed. New cement apron at Fire Hall inferior; Dennison man pleads guilty to Criminal Vehicular operation; Rice County law enforcement really delivers

Parts of the brand new cement apron in front of the Northfield Fire Hall is inferior.  NAFRS Chair Glen Castore had reported that testing was being done and the results would be in last month.  Northfield Administrator Ben Martig said the results indicate that an approximate 80×20 foot portion of concrete between the middle overhead doors and the sidewalk is substandard and will need to be removed and replaced.  He added that it’s in good enough condition to last through winter.
