Seems a lot of citizens were interested in learning more about what ADUs are.  The City of Northfield held an Open House last night regarding Accessory Dwelling Units as the Planning Commission recommended a, sort of carte blanche, in allowing them to bypass many of the regulations for building.  It might be easier to say what they aren’t, which is just tiny homes. As we celebrate the Spring Equinox today, the river, she’s rising.  Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson gave an update on the flooding situation this morning.  The Cannon is just over 898 ft today, and businesses are preparing, Nelson says this will be a long-term Spring season concern.  The National Weather Service has placed Northfield, specifically, at a 60% chance of major flooding.  Nelson said, “those are not good percentages”.  That’s a higher probability than the City’s Emergency Director, Tim Isom, wanted to hear. Flood Update from NWS and Chief Monte Nelson

The City of Northfield and the National Weather Service – Chanhassen (NWS) are urging all Northfield area property owners in flood prone areas to start taking action to protect their property.  The NWS has placed the Cannon River at Northfield in an elevated flood risk through the Spring Season.

According to the NWS, fall ground water conditions, heavy snow amounts, and other factors create a 60% chance the Cannon River in Northfield will reach Major Flood Stage this Spring. Numerous factors will affect flood risks including temperatures, rate of thaw, rainfall amounts and other influences. The river level is expected to stay very high through the Spring season, regardless of rain amounts.

UPDATE 8:33AM:

Cancel Milaca PD missing person Dennis Mead alert. Dennis was found safe in Vernon County, Wisconsin late last night. Thank you to all who helped look for him.

The Milaca Police Department is asking for assistance in locating Dennis Eugene Mead, 75, of Milaca. Dennis was last seen at his residence around 10:30 in the morning on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Dennis has dementia and may be lost or confused and unable to find his way home. He is driving a 2016 orange Toyota Rav 4 with Minnesota license plate 596UZN. and was last seen wearing a blue and gray plaid shirt, blue jeans, a brown and green Columbia jacket, wool Stormy Kromer style hat and tennis shoes. Nfld Area YMCA announces new CEO; Nfld Schools projects form planning and user groups for construction input; Designing for a seamless fit; Cultural Plan, street projects, pools and policy

The Northfield Area YMCA Board of Directors announced yesterday the hiring of Krista Danner as the new CEO.  Virginia Kaczmarek left late last year to head up the Y organization in Rochester, which led to a national search to fill the open position.  Search Committee Chair Gretchen Ehresmann said they narrowed a pool of 24 candidates to 3 who came to town and had in person interviews.  Board Chair Amy McBroom said, “Kirsta’s experience makes her a great match for our (more…)
