Farmington man dies in single car crash; To be or not to be a city, Bridgewater Township’s quest for incorporation continues; Put down the phone and slow down

By Teri Knight, News Director A single car crash took the life of a young man from Farmington. Just before midnight Friday, 19-year-old Ryan Mumm was traveling in the 30700 block of Northfield Boulevard in Waterford Township when he crashed. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office said Mumm died of multiple head injuries. According to the Star Tribune, Mumm was wearing a seatbelt at the time. The crash investigation has been turned over to the Minnesota State Patrol reconstructionist.   (more…)

As the temperature rises, so do the number of calls to the Northfield Police Department about thefts from vehicles. Police Chief Monte Nelson says, “Don’t leave valuables in your cars, lock your vehicles, lock up your garages including the door from the garage into your house.” He said don’t make it easy for a thief, and, “If you see something, call immediately, call our non-emergency line and pass on the information. In April of last year, two people were charged in the death of a 3-year-old Eagan boy in foster care. In April of this year, 28-year-old Charles Homich pled guilty to 2nd degree murder in the death of 3-year-old Zayden Lawson, a foster child in the care of his girlfriend, 32-year-old Zeporia Fortenberry. His sentencing is set for August 13, 2019, in Hastings. Fortenberry pled guilty Thursday to one count of 2nd degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 41 months in prison. On the afternoon of June 7, 2017, Eagan police and paramedics were sent to a townhome where a three-year-old was not breathing. 2019 street projects bid twice and cost 20% more than anticipated; Appeals court upholds sentencing in distracted driving case; Dundas Chief Kline looks to continue collaboration

The City of Northfield bid the 2019 street reclamation project twice. The first time was in April and they didn’t receive any bids, largely due to the size of the project, in particular the Third Street corridor and the timeline that they had to work with. They rebid the job to allow for work to take place into 2020. On Tuesday, staff reported they had four bids come in about 20% higher than anticipated. A Faribault man was sentenced yesterday to 130 months in prison and a lifetime of conditional release for molesting two of his fiance’s children. The original complaint, issued in March of 2018, states that 37-year-old Keith Richard Falkenstern came to Faribault with his fiance and her four children in late February last year. They were living in a hotel when the mother walked in on Falkenstern in bed with one of her two daughters. The child told her mother Falkenstern had touched her. Both girls were interviewed by Rice County Social Services and reported being molested by Falkenstern multiple times in North Carolina, where they came from, and in Minnesota.
