KYMN’s own Jeff Johnson has received the prestigious Honorary Commodore Award. The award is presented to individuals who demonstrate the spirit of volunteerism and involvement within their community. This individual is nominated by a Community or Festival, then the Minneapolis Aquatennial recognizes the individual’s contributions by presenting the award.
Jeff has been involved with the Defeat of Jesse James Days (DJJD)Celebration directly and indirectly since 1987 when he moved here from Illinois. He came to Northfield as an announcer for KYMN 1080 Radio and then became the sports director serving the community by recognizing the young athletes for their efforts. He was known to many as the sports GURU.
Jeff has also served the DJJD well as a parade announcer, entertainment center volunteer, concessions chairman, gambling committee member, chairman of the “Outlaw Run” motorcycle rally and Emcee of the Defeat of Jesse James Days Royalty Scholarship Coronation. As the new owner of KYMN radio, Jeff continues to be a valuable sponsor to our celebration in a very generous way. As a member of the Board of Directors through the Northfield Historical Society he helps promote the history of the bank raid of 1876. From putting up tents to financial support…Jeff Johnson is a friend you can count on!
