To promote the reuse and recycling of unwearable shoes, the City of Northfield is hosting a shoe recycling drive September 16-20 at two locations. People can drop off any type of footwear –shoes, boots, sandals – in any condition.
Drop-off locations are:
• Northfield City Hall back parking lot, 801 Washington Street, Northfield, MN 55057
• Community Action Center and FiftyNorth at each entrance, 1651 Jefferson Parkway HS200, Northfield, MN 55057
USAgain is providing free collection bins. They collect and resell shoes to thrift stores and secondhand retailers. Shoes that cannot be resold are reused as furniture stuffing and home insulation.
Because USAgain is a for-profit company, the Community Action Center will receive $0.01 per pound collected during the drive.
