The Defeat of Jesse James Days Carnival has been moved. Due to the copious amount of rain in the past week, the ground at Ames Park was determined not to be stable enough to support the heavy carnival equipment, therefore the DJJD Carnival has been moved to the parking lot across from the Post Brands factory between Plum St. and Orchard St. Carnival hours will remain the same throughout the celebration.
Northfield Liquor Operations Mgr, Stephen Delong, presented his 2018 budget to Council. He began by saying 2018 is unique from previous years wherein he projected a 2.5% increase in sales. He said, “this year we’re actually proposing a decline in sales of approximately 13%, down to $2.7 million from approximately $3.1 or $3.2 million”. Last July, Carolyn Meyer was chosen as the 2017 Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes and there will be an Open House on Sunday June 4, 2017 5:00-8:00 PM with a program at 6:15PM at the Grand Event Center to celebrate. The motorcyclist who was airlifted Saturday night after a van failed to yield at an intersection has been identified. 46 year old William Marcum of Faribault was traveling south on Hwy 3 with his wife, 45 year old Donna Ramey when a van driven by 18 year old Natalie Swanson of rural Northfield took a left turn from North Hwy 3 to westbound 19. Deputy Chief Mark Dukatz said Marcum was unable to avoid the van. Both riders were ejected. Ramey suffered minor injuries but Marcum was airlifted from Northfield Hospital to an unspecified metro hospital. Swanson was cited for Failure to Yield.
