2018 Sidewalk Poetry Contest Winners
The Arts and Culture Commission of Northfield, in partnership with the Friends and Foundation of the Library, announce the following winners of this year’s contest: Becky Boling, Avery Eastvold, Steven McCown, Julie Ryan, Marie Vogel Gery.
The winning poems will be on display at the Northfield Public Library and City Hall. They will also be posted on the ACC page of the City of Northfield website and on the website of the Friends and Foundation of the Library. Copies of the poems will also be shared with local media. Poems will be installed in City sidewalks over the spring and summer, as weather permits. Following the installation of this year’s winning poems, a Sidewalk Poetry celebration will take place on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 7 pm on Bridge Square in downtown Northfield.
2018 Poem in Your Pocket
This week marks the fifth year of Northfield’s Arts and Culture Commission’s participation in the national Poem in Your Pocket Day, as established by the Academy of American Poets. In sixteen locations, Northfielders will have the opportunity to select poems to take with them for sharing with others. Included in the boxes are not only poems penned by the winning poets in Northfield’s Sidewalk Poetry Competition, but those of well-known poets of long ago, as well.
