Groundbreaking took place yesterday morning for the new Dundas Dome this morning. The 91,000 square foot facility will hold 3 practice soccer fields, a full soccer field or lacrosse or 2 regulation softball games. Paul and Shelly Whiteman and Mike and Sherry Foster are the owners. Sherry said they started planning the dome just a year ago. Sherry thanked all the people who helped them including the City of Dundas and First National Bank. She added this is not about making money. “What we wanted was to have this spot for our youth, for our community so that they could enjoy it. That’s really what it’s all about”. Additionally,
“it will provide economic growth for different businesses in town because it will draw a lot of people into the area”. Bank President Rick Estenson commented that it will most certainly be an economic driver. Senator Dahle spoke about civic responsibility and how the Fosters and Whitemans exemplified that commitment. There were a lot of folks there to support them including Aramis Wells, “as a member of our community I think it’s great that our kids will have something to do during the winter and any time where you can do that where it’s privately funded rather than publicly funded is a bonus”. They plan on a soft opening in mid-October with a grand opening November 1st. It will operate seasonally from November 1st to April 30th.
