The Northfield Police Department would like to notify residents of recent Thefts from Motor Vehicles and Burglaries in Northfield.

In the last the last three weeks, the Northfield Police Department has received numerous reports of thefts from motor vehicle, tampering with motor vehicles, and burglaries of residences. There have been approximately seven burglaries and six thefts from motor vehicle reports. The incidents have occurred all over the city at various times of the day and/or night.

Northfield Police are asking residents to follow these suggestions and talk to neighbors, friends, and relatives about the same. Keep in mind the majority of these incidents are crimes of opportunity:

– Do not leave valuables in vehicles, and if you must leave items of value in vehicles, store the items out of sight.

– Lock All Vehicles when unattended – Period.

– Lock All doors and windows on your house or apartment.

– Make sure overhead garage doors are closed/locked, and also lock Any/All walk-in doors to garages. Many of these Burglaries take place when suspects enter unlocked garages to look for items to steal from garages or vehicles in garages.

– If you observe suspicious persons, regardless of time of day, please report to the Northfield Police Department immediately.

– Remember that some suspects target homes during daytime hours, checking doors, or knocking at doors and providing bogus excuses if someone answers the door. If no one answers, they enter, or attempt to enter the home looking for cash, jewelry, small electronics, and/or prescription drugs.

These crimes are largely preventable. Please follow the listed suggestions and talk to people in your neighborhood about these concerns.

Report crimes or suspicious persons to Northfield Police immediately at 507-645- 4475.
