Stats on unsecured loads: For 1/1/16 – 6/15/16 MSP has issued:
- 122 no/improper load securement citations for passenger vehicles.
- 802 no/improper load securement warnings for passenger vehicles.
- 0 no/improper load securement citations for commercial vehicles.
- 73 no/improper load securement warnings for commercial vehicles.
In the last five years (6/1/11 – 6/2/16), the Minnesota State Patrol has issued:
- 1,673 unsecured load citations to passenger vehicle drivers.
- 305 unsecured load citations to commercial vehicle drivers.
- 9,331 unsecured load warnings to passenger vehicle drivers.
- 2,032 unsecured load warnings to commercial vehicle drivers.
These stats highlight that being able to stop and swerve well, wearing full protective gear, being able to maintain at least a two second following distance, and using good judgement when encountering these vehicles are essential for motorcyclists.
