Local man airlifted after farm accident

A local man was airlifted to a trauma hospital following a farm accident.  At 3:40 yesterday afternoon, Northfield Police and Rice County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a farm accident in the 14000b of Ibson Ave. in Nerstrand.   41 year old Jesse Fearing was hauling two round bales when the tractor rolled. He was accompanied by his 3 year old son, who was not injured. It was reported that responders had a difficult time getting to the scene as the area was saturated from

recent rainfall.  Jesse was airlifted to HCMC from the scene.  I spoke with Representative Tom Hayes who reports Jesse in “satisfactory condition”.  Nfld Fire/rescue and Nfld ambulance also responded.

Don’t hesitate – Call

The public are the ones who will get this guy says Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson.  He gave an update on the man who’s either exposed himself or been inappropriate to women.  He’s described as a Latino male in his 20’s to perhaps early 30’s.  There’s always a vehicle associated with the incidents.  He approaches women in his car as they’re walking down the street and asks a question, he doesn’t always expose himself, every encounter is just slightly different.  The car is described as a light colored 4 door sedan, perhaps a GM make but they need a plate number.  If you are approached by someone fitting the description, call police immediately.  Nelson said they’ve taken calls after the incident has happened, maybe by an hour or two or even the next day and that’s too late for them to do anything.  Call the non-emergency dispatch number at 507-645-4475 and get as much of the plate number as possible.

Northfield School District to hold community meeting

The Northfield School District is holding a strategic planning meeting with the public on the evening of September 1st at 5:30 at the Northfield Middle School.  Superintendent Dr. Matt Hillman says the plan is to plan and refine the district’s vision and mission and identify some long term priorities and some specific goals.  The public is urged to attend and let your voice be heard.  It’s one part of the input process the School Board will use to make it’s final decision on a strategic plan.

Arbor Street Update

Northfield City Engineer Sean Simonson updated the Hwy 246 and Arbor St. project.  Crews have completed the storm sewer installations and placed fill to allow for the sidewalk installation.  Concrete crews were on-site late to complete the curb and gutter installations.  Next week, sidewalks and pedestrian ramps are scheduled to be installed early in the week.  Topsoil, seed and signing will happen shortly after.  The rapid flashing beacon crosswalk sign and dynamic speed feedback sign will be installed shortly after the Labor Day weekend.
