Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall arrives tomorrow
A replica of the Vietnam Wall in the nation’s capital is coming to Faribault. Co-chair, Virginia Van Sluis, said the wall will arrive at the Steele County fairgrounds tomorrow. From there, Rice Co Sheriff Troy Dunn says that his office is working with Faribault and Northfield police and fire departments to escort the wall from Steele to Rice Co. fairgrounds. It will be on display from Thursday through Monday. It’s a stirring tribute to those who gave all in an unpopular war. Dunn said, “I think this is a great way to remember the people that lost their lives in Vietnam and remember the people that have served in Vietnam and give them the recognition they need”. Van Sluis said her committee of five, chose not to have any politicians involved. All those participating in the Ceremony had involvement in the Vietnam War. She said, “this is for them”. The Grand Opening Ceremony is Thursday evening at 6:30. Van Sluis is encouraging as many people as possible to join the escort or line up along Hwy 45 as the wall moves from Steele Co. to Rice County tomorrow afternoon. They’ll leave about 3pm and should arrive about an hour later at Rice Co. fairgrounds. For further information go to travelingwallfaribault2016.org.
