Community News: Cannon River update and The NAUW “Truck Pull” has been cancelled

As of 1:12pm this afternoon the USGS map shows the Cannon River level in Northfield at just over 898 feet.  It peaked in August at 897 feet.  During the 2010 flood the Cannon reached 907 feet on Sept. 24th, 2010.

Deputy Chief Mark Dukatz says the river will get near 900 feet.  The same spot we were in 2014.  It will go over the railing on the west side of the walk bridge.  Basil’s and Froggy’s are bagging.  They’ll still have ground water issues which they’re using sump pumps.  Most of the businesses will be doing that.  they will be sand bagging the Carlson building if it goes over the wall by the walk bridge.  There’s no rain forecasted until Saturday which should allow water to go down again.  The fire station has a dike around the facility.  Just Foods Coop is sandbagging now.  Police and the Streets department will be placing barricades around the river walk to keep people away from the dam and the river.

The Northfield Area United Way campaign kick off “Truck Pull” has been cancelled for today.  They are asking the community instead to “pull together” and volunteer where they can to help businesses and community members affected by the rising river levels.  Candy Taylor from Northfield Shares is coordinating any volunteers.  Contact them HERE.
