Due to recent heavy rains, Rice County Sherriff Troy Dunn has just released the Flood Alert News Release:
– Area Flooding
Date/time reported: 09-22-2016 at 9:00 hours
Location of Incident: Rice County
Due to the heavy rains we’ve received in the last 2 days, Rice County has had areas of localized flooding, including rivers, streams and holding ponds. The Sheriff’s Office is advising all citizens to proceed with caution when traveling, as we are still seeing rising water throughout the county. The river levels have risen 4- 6 feet on both the Cannon and Straight Rivers overnight and continue to rise. A number of roadways are closed due to flooding and we may see more in the near future. Please do not walk or drive across roadways that have running water over them. Do not drive around barricades. Please avoid any recreational boating on the rivers and streams. Error on the side of caution with these conditions.
We don’t know when these waterways will crest, so please be cautious and use common sense. If you need emergency assistance, please contact the Sheriff’s Office.
