NAFRS Board recommends Northfield bond for fire facility
The NAFRS Board voted to approve a recommendation that the City of Northfield bond for the fire facility as a Capital Improvement project. Chair Glen Castore said if that’s done then there’s a provision for a Reverse Referendum. Adding that it’s Northfield who would do the financing and the other entities (Rural and Dundas) would pay Northfield for their share. The hope is the facility would be rehabbed in 2018. They also further discussed creating a Taxing District. At a September meeting they were encouraged to draft legislation to that order by the lobbyist. It would include Northfield Hospital’s EMS. Castore said it could be written in such a way that it would not be a taxing district for EMS at first but leave room that they could be if they wanted to. Northfield Hospital CEO Steve Underdahl was present at their October meeting to learn more. There are still plenty of details to consider before moving toward a taxing district.
