It’s Food, beverage and softball in Dundas
The makeup of the Dundas City Council didn’t change after Election Day. And they were all back at it last night. City Administrator John McCarthy talked about the much anticipated Aldi’s store, “last night Council approved the lot combination that Aldi’s requested and the Planned Unit Development (PUD) waiver that they requested”. Normally a project of that size requires a PUD, but because Aldi’s doesn’t require any special favors, they don’t need one! McCarthy said, “we were told by the engineer that they expect to apply for a building permit by the end of the year”.
They could be under construction by the end of the year! Dundas has a lot going on these days between the newly opened Dundas Dome, the College City Beverage expansion, Aldi’s and now, “on Thursday night the Planning Commission is going to be meeting with a developer who will present a concept plan for development of the K-Mart building”. McCarthy says the developer is looking at reusing it as mixed retail space akin to a mall.

Turkey Trot a hometown tradition
The Northfield Rotary Turkey Trot has become Northfield’s unofficial homecoming event for the 1000-plus runners and walkers who participate each year. Chair of the Youth Exchange Program, Rick Estenson said this is the 16th year and will begin at the Weitz Center. You can go to northfieldrotary.org and find out more information, register online. Those who pre-register will get a t-shirt. If you register on race day, you won’t. The race starts at 9am. Estenson says some of the proceeds will go to the youth exchange program which will send 18 Northfield students to foreign countries and, “we’ve long been on the effort of trying to end polio in the world. I think there’s less than 17 cases this year of polio around the world in just a couple of countries so we’re very close and proceeds from this will also go for those final vaccinations to finally put a lid on this”.
