Pair jailed for suspicion of murder in Prior Lake

A man and a woman were booked on suspicion of murder yesterday in connection with the killing of 42-year-old James Herron in Prior Lake, which led to a police chase that ended when police shot another man suspected in the slaying, authorities said.  The 39 year old female suspect was booked into Scott County Jail about 10:30 yesterday morning on suspicion of second-degree murder and a related charge, according to the Star Tribune.  The 27 year old male suspect was

booked on suspicion of similar charges.  They have not yet been formally charged.  Law enforcement officials have not released the condition of the 3rd suspect who was shot by police.  The three are suspected of killing Herron, a member of the Mdewakanton Sioux tribe, in his home near Mystic Lake Casino.  Officers started the chase when the suspect vehicle was seen leaving the house.  It ended in Edina.

Former Eagan teacher sentenced for stalking student

A former Eagan middle school teacher will serve 30 days of house arrest in each of the next five years after pleading guilty to stalking a former 12-year-old female student on social media, the Dakota County attorney’s office announced Tuesday.  26 year old Cody Woodrow Hansen of Hastings was sentenced last week.  Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said in a press release that Hansen will also serve 5 years probation.  He pleaded guilty in August to using snapchat to interact with the former student for several months.  Hansen used several usernames to contact the student, telling her she was cute, asking if she ever kissed anyone and if she liked older men.  He finally admitted to the girl it was him and that he could get into trouble.  She told Eagan police that she “felt creepy and unsafe” in Hansen’s classroom.

Nfld Council takes week off, Dundas back at it Monday

It’ll be another quiet week for Northfield City Council next week. They’ll be back in session December 6th to hold a public hearing and vote on the 2017 budget and levy.  A 2{b5761be34e80a16b6d0e4dabc1869c131a263f96a745c82bebdd3b8a4330bfa9} levy is expected by the majority.  Dundas City Council will meet Monday, November 28th.  Technically local municipalities have until December 28th to turn in their levy to the County Assessor.  If it goes past that time, then the County would assign 2016 levels.

Turkey Trot like a very large family reunion

Once again, Northfield Rotary’s Turkey Trot turned out the runners and walkers.  About a thousand people gathered on a perfect day for running the annual 5K  which raises dollars that will help fund the Student Exchange program.  Robert Bierman commented on how travel abroad affects the kids, “it’s eye-opening, it’s enlightening and you realize that it’s one world.  And I think that it changes people for the rest of their lives, and the way they see themselves and the world”.  He added that it also changes the way we think of our own country.  The atmosphere is almost like a very large family reunion as multiple families have gathered now for years to run (or walk) the race.
