Visitors can wander through our unique shops and enjoy beautifully decorated storefront window displays. There will be horse-drawn carriage and carolers strolling through downtown along with thousands of twinkling lights to guide your path! Old and young alike enjoy viewing the model train display located at the Northfield Public Library – or watching the performance of the NAGCracker at the Northfield Arts Guild.

Santa Claus and his elves will be making an appearance as well as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer!  We hope you will join us, as we usher in the holiday season with this fun and festive event.

Northfield Arts Guild and Winter Walk

First, on this week’s ArtZany! Radio show Dylan Nuebel (A+ Marketplace participant) and Emily Butka (St. Olaf Volunteer for the A+ Art Club and Marketplace) will talk about the A+ Marketplace and selling their artful objects at the Arts Guild for Winter Walk.

Autism and the Arts is an art program for teens and young adults on the autism spectrum that began in 2010. The purpose of the program is to provide the opportunity for participants to develop art and social skills in a well structured, safe, social environment, empowering them to thrive in their community. Participants learn the value of collaboration, being open to new ideas and experiences, while building a sense of community.  Social and life skills are practiced in a supportive setting. We share in the experience of art-making, friendship and trust.

The A+ Marketplace began last fall as an extension of Summer Art Mart. This arts workshop focuses on the creation and production of artful objects for the marketplace. The workshop will culminate in the sale of the objects at Northfield’s annual holiday celebration, Winter Walk, on Thursday, Dec. 8

A+ Marketplace @ Winter Walk
December 8 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
The A+ artists and volunteers with A+ Marketplace, part of the Autism and the Arts programming at the Northfield Arts Guild will be selling their cards and ceramic works on the first floor of the Northfield Arts Guild’s Center for the Arts, 304 Division Street South, during Winter Walk from 5:00-9:00 pm.

NAGCracker
December 8 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
This annual event of holiday-inspired pieces features work from the Arts Guild Dance Theater Company and Mexican Folklórico Dancers. This vibrant performance is sure to set the mood for the upcoming holidays. Also, come for the readings and song by Steve Lawler and Jerry Fox. We’ll have one performance this year at 6:30pm in the Arts Guild Dance Studio during Winter Walk. The event is free and open to the public.

Next, on this week’s ArtZany! Radio show we’ll preview the 9th NAGCracker with Shari Setchell and the Dance Theater Company class. This year there are 8 dancers and two dances from the Nutcracker: “Tea Divertisssement” (Tchaikovsky) and a Duke Ellington version of “Waltz of the Flowers” called “Dance of the Floreadores”.

Then, Kate Stuart with the NAG’s Mexican Folklorico Club will talk about the famous “Chocolate” (also known as the Spanish dance) from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet and choreographer and principal teacher, Ana Baez, who will lead the group in familiar Christmas carols played by a mariachi band for the group’s presentation.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE: Saturday, 17 December at 5pm
