Nerstrand man arrested for drugs, guns and cash 

Agents from the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force executed a knock and announce search warrant at 112 1st St. South.  29 year old Dustan Charles Schmitt led agents to the location of 2 handguns plus bullets, mason jars and heat-sealed plastic bags filled with marijuana totaling over 2 pounds.  After a thorough search of the home, agents found nearly 3 pounds of marijuana and just over $10,000 in cash.  Schmitt admitted selling small amounts of pot to feed his habit.  He also doesn’t work.  He lives in the home with 3 or 4 kids.  Two of his children, both aged 4, were in the home at the time.  The drugs, guns and cash were all accessible to the children.  He’s charged with 5th degree drugs, a felony with up to a 5 year sentence and child endangerment, a gross misdemeanor.  His initial court appearance is January 19th.  Schmitt complaint – Nerstrand
