Governor Dayton Proclaims “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day,” Orders I-35W Bridge Lit Blue

Governor Dayton directs the Minnesota Department of Transportation to light the Interstate 35W bridge blue; windows at the Governor’s Residence will also be lit blue

  1. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Monday, January 9, 2017, as “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” in the State of Minnesota, recognizing the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officials in Minnesota and around the country. Governor Dayton has also directed the Minnesota Department of Transportation to light the Minneapolis I-35W bridge blue in recognition of the day. The windows of the Governor’s Residence will also be lit blue.

“Every day and night, law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect and serve communities across our state,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “Today, we recognize the service and sacrifice of those brave men and women, and their families. Minnesota is a safer, stronger, better state thanks to their unwavering service.”

The Governor’s proclamation recognizes the extraordinary service and sacrifice of the men and women in law enforcement who keep our communities safe, enforce the rule of law, and respond in times of crisis.

“The brave men and women in law enforcement understand they take risks every day to protect the rest of us,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. “Today and every day, let us pause to recognize and thank them for their courage, dedication, and professionalism.”

Minnesota is home to more than 10,000 law enforcement officials. Minnesota was fortunate not to have lost a single law enforcement officer in the line of duty in 2016; however, our nation lost a total of 138 courageous officers last year.
